NEW DELHI: The Lok Sabha MP and chief of AIMIM (All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen), Asaduddin Owaisi in a recent incident faced pre-poll violence as unidentified assailants opened fire at him in Uttar Pradesh.
The unknown attackers took the opportunity to target Owaisi at a toll plaza located in Hapur closed to the national capital Delhi and in the western part of Uttar Pradesh.
He was attacked when he was inside a car on his way to Delhi moving ahead towards Meerat from Kithaur of UP after attending a poll event.
The AIMIM chief on Thursday 3 February informed that his car tires got punctured as a result of the firing but no one had sustained any injuries.
He informed that later the attackers left their weapons and managed to escape from the spot of the incident.
At least three to four people fired four rounds of bullets at the car of the Hyderabad MP as stated by him. At the time of the attack, Owaisi managed to come out of his car, moved into another car and left from there.
On speaking with reporters Owaisi said that his car was fired at the Chhajarsi toll gate by were 3-4 assailants who left the weapons and run away. One of them was hit by the party members of AIMIM in another car following his car.
After reaching Delhi, Owaisi has demanded the election commission to direct a detailed and impartial investigation over the shooting incident.
The MP said that the UP government and the Modi government must take responsibility for conducting an independent investigation into the incident. He also stated that he will meet the Lok Sabha Speaker to discuss the matter.
As of now one shooter related to the incident has been arrested by police said the MP. The arrested shooter is identified as Sachin residing in Noida and a 9mm pistol was recovered by him as stated by additional SP Hapur.
